watched k-20 (怪人二十面相・伝 or the fiend with 20 faces) with sherilyn ystd.was my idea as i was pretty interested in the show.

the show is set in the fictional capital city of teito (think tokyo irl) where world war II was avoided and 90% of japan's wealth is controlled by the upper class aristocracy.the titular character, k-20 is a robin hood like figure who steals from the rich.

takeshi kaneshiro plays circus acrobat heikichi who is being set up as k-20 by k-20 himself.thus he must escape from jail and also avoid the police which is hunting him down, while putting the real k-20 to justice.

overall, really cool show.who would've believed that k-20 is actually an adaptation from a japanese novel?though the storyline was nth we've nvr see before, the acting and the mysterious k-20 character keeps you on the edge of your seat.and yoko (played by takako matsu) is darn pretty, cute and aloof.so nice to watch. =D

the only qualm i have is that k-20 seemed like a complete rip-off from v for vendetta.almost parallel storylines.and the ending seemed like a rip off from the dark knight.

overall 4 out of 5 popcorns.the plot twist near the end which reveals the identity of k-20 was a pretty good trick, you'll get what i mean when you watch it.these japanese are sure as hell good in making such movies.

the next japanese movie i want to watch.detroit metal city!!!

adapted from the manga of the same name, detroit metal city is abt soichi negishi, an aspiring musician wanting to make in big as a pop musician in tokyo.but in the end he ended up being johannnes krauser II, the lead singer of the famous indie death metal band detroit metal city or dmc for short.

the movie was out last year but only coming out in singapore soon.nvm, it's better late than never.go to dmc!

6 MORE DAYS TO WATCHMEN!03.06.09!

Thursday, February 26, 2009

alrighty the trip.11 days, spanning across hong kong, macau and china.

day one.woke up at 4 plus in the morn, 6.40am flight to hong kong.reached there at ard 10 plus in the morning.took s1 (the airport bus) as usual to tung chung (东涌) before changing to the mtr.first stop, my uncle's house at lai king (茘景).

hong kong international airport!

had lunch and afternoon tea at metro plaza at kwai fong (葵芳).which is one mtr station away from lai king.my parents had dinner with their friends that night so with my uncle and aunt, i walked around the mongkok area.yea man, typical tourist hotspot.

love that area though, gets busier as the night gets darker.full of hustle and bustle, really shows the vibrant culture there, like street art, busking and not forgetting ladies market (女人街).

mongkok (旺角)!

ctma center.home to the famed toy hunters.

as all toy collectors know, toy hunters mainly sells hot toys figures.many were on display at the store.nerdgasm overload X 100.pictures!

after toy hunters, walked ard the busy streets of mongkok again, probably the town that never sleeps.

lol mini dog show!

the shirt reads "i <3 mom".

now this is a rare sight in hong kong nowadays as ice cream trucks are practically non existent.have not bought a softee from there in my whole life though lol.

day one ended with my family heading to macau (澳門) late at night by ferry.wanted to visit the casinoes the same night but was too knackered.

day two.i swear macau is one country that fascinates me.with a population at half a million and a land area which is 1/20 of singapore's size, it has a casino strip, airport, and a government of it's own.truly amazing.

macau.

the ceiling of wynn's casino/hotel.

the toilet lol.

above is hotel lisboa, the first casino in macau.classic shit yo!reminds me of that sam hui (许冠杰) movie, games gamblers play (鬼马双星) haha.

after visiting all the casinoes (wynn, the sands, mgm grand and hotel lisboa) it was time for lunch so we headed to downtown macau.

when did vanessa start a business there?!

back alley.

had wonton noodles for lunch.probably the best food i ate at macau and probably one of the best wonton noodles ever.after that, decided to go to the main tourist attraction of the small island, the ruins of st paul's (大三巴).

niceee.

the ruins of st paul's (大三巴).the first cathedral built in macau hundreds of years ago.a fire burnt that place down in 1835 and this is what's left of it.no doubt a historic monument.

decided to chill at starbucks after that.mind you the drinks there are more expensive than in singapore.then off to the last destination, the venetian hotel!

old school coke yo!

inside the venetian hotel.

haha...again.

now this is why it's venetian.

complete with caucasian boaters!

after dinner at night (which was crap btw) went to the casino strip again.pretty disappointing as i thought the lights would rival that of vegas.to add more disappointment was the lack of pple at the area.

foutain performance.

day three to six was spent in china.one day zhuhai (珠海) and three at zhong shan (中山).pretty boring as i don't really fancy china.at least zhu hai has some shopping areas that i could waste time at.zhong shan was a total bore.spend the days either watching dvds or going out for dinner.

the only thing worth mentioning abt the few days there?the food!haha...cheap, fresh and most of all, tasty.feast on that.

kung fu (真功夫).didn't have that til the last night i was there.but this is a uniquely china fast food chain.just like what cafe de coral (大家乐) is to hong kong.

shek kei lo (石岐佬).probably the most interesting restaurant ever.

yes it's actually an aquarium below the urinal.pervy kois.

roasted pigeons.

pineapple buns with real pineapple in it, yummm.

yes finally, kung fu for dinner.

day seven.headed back to hong kong.the start of the most fulfilling part of the whole trip.headed to my uncle's place after checking into the hotel, which is located right below ting kau bridge (汀九桥).

finally saw my 4 day old nephew, so cuteeee. =DD

lai king, where my uncle resides.

((:

my mom with my nephew.

my dad's turn.

diaper changing.

after that, had afternoon tea before heading to sincere shopping center (先达广场) at mongkok with my dad and cousin, as my dad wanted to get the nokia 5800.damn the quantity of phones sold there are zomggg, with a number of chinese and japanese models.even got iphone mini lol, so fake!

mongkok, revisited.

dinner at some chinese restaurant at kwai fong.despite the current recession, this restaurant isn't affected as there was quite the number of pple dining there.had to wait half an hour for before we got a seat.

classic coke bottle.

eel!

day eight.decided to visit sai kung (西贡).havent been there since my 3rd uncle (my dad's younger brother) brought me and my cousins there when i was like 3 years old.took bus from tsuen wan (荃灣) to sha tin bus terminal (沙田巴士总站) then changed bus to sai kung.for most tourists, you wouldn't believe in hong kong, such a place would exist.

nearing shing mun tunnel (城门隧道).

sai kung (西贡).

now this is really fresh seafood.

the fog that day was thick, like srsly.

fishing boats.

wanton mee again!probably the best one in the trip.

next stop was tsim sha tsui (尖沙咀), as i wanted to visit toys r us at harbour city (海港城).took bus to choi hung (彩虹)mtr station.the bus route was pretty scenic, weaving along the mountain terrains surrounding sai kung.kinda reminds me of mt. akina (秋名山) in initial d.

tsim sha tsui (尖沙咀).

hong kong's biggest adidas store.

mcdull (麥兜)!

afternoon tea and i had french toast from cafe de coral for the first time in years.still think they make the most perfect french toast i've ever eaten.crispy on the outside and a thick layer of peanut butter inside, sinfulll.

headed to sham shui po (深水埗) after that.that place is the poorest place in hong kong but yet it's famous 'cause of apliu street (鸭寮街), golden mile complex (equivalent to sim lim square) and of course, not forgetting the fact it's the red light district of hong kong.

mom went to look at daily household items while me and my dad busied ourselves with cellphones, hi-fi and electronic goods.

apliu street (鸭寮街).

had dinner with my maternal relatives at my aunt's (mom's older sis) place.she lives at the flats above citywalk (荃新天地) at tsuen wan.they even have a clubhouse for the residents living there and all i can say is that it looks more like a 5 star hotel rather than a residential living area.

my maternal relatives.

citywalk (荃新天地) at night.

the clubhouse.

me and my aunt (mom's younger sis).

macam paham only.

day nine.the only one day we don't really have a fixed plan for the day.went to make my at mongkok in the morning, which took quite a few hours.then decided to have roadside snacks for lunch while roaming ard. (:

smelly tofu!darn crispy outside, soft and warm inside.

siew mai!

鸡蛋仔!

the best mango pudding ever from hui lau shan (许留山).

mark I like finally.

went to tin shui wai (天水围) and back to tsuen wan after that.all because my parents want to look at flats as they might consider buying and selling again zzz.

tin shui wai (天水围).

finally i see clouds and a blue sky!

day ten.after breakfast at citywalk, visited my nephew again.i swear he's gonna grow up to be a good looking fella.

stefanie sun!pretty pretty.

my turn!

lunch with my paternal relatives.went across to hong kong island (港岛) with my parents after that.i mean, which hong kong trip is a real hong kong trip if we never go to hong kong island?

took a bus there.oh how i miss going there through the cross harbour tunnel (香港海底隧道).which is located underwater.i swear i always get excited while going across through the cross harbour tunnel.like the whole "i'm actually underwater but not underwater at the same time".haha.

ps. hong kong is actually seperated into 2 islands.kowloon/new territories (九龙/新界) and hong kong island (港岛) .

the usual traffic jam.

cross harbour tunnel.

hong kong island!

causeway bay area.

actual plan was a tram ride from causeway bay (铜锣湾) to kennedy town(坚尼地城).due to time constraint we took tram to central (中環) instead.and hitched a ferry ride back to tsim sha tsui.

causeway bay (铜锣湾).

trams!

central (中環).

central pier (中環头).

the iconic tourist symbol, the star ferry (天星小轮).used to be the only transport for pple crossing the victoria harbour (维多利亚港), gg from kowloon to hong kong island.now it has become more like a tourist attraction, it's 9 minute ride has become a mean for pple to view the beauty that's on both side of the harbour.

hong kong island.

tsim sha tsui pier (尖沙咀头).

this is what you call national treasure.last pillar in the whole of hong kong which still have the public arts of the late "emperor of kowloon"(九龙皇帝 曾灶财).whose graffiti used to be part and parcel of hong kong life back then.good thing that the government started presevering his art after his death.uniquely hong kong it is.

back to mongkok where i went to richmond 111 to get toys for sherilyn and joshua.couldn't get more as i was on a really tight budget.went to golden mile complex again after that as my dad got mom a laptop.

day eleven.the last day i was in hong kong.woke up quite early to pack up and check out from the hotel.took bus a31 from tsuen wan mtr station to the airport.quite a long ride.

tsing ma bridge (青马大桥).the longest and biggest bridge in hong kong.

departure hall.

terminal 2!

inside terminal 1.

and here i am, back in singapore blogging abt my trip.all in all i guess i do feel at home in hong kong, despite more than half my life is in singapore.the hustle and bustle, the familiarity of the places and people sure gets to me.feel proud that i was born in that place haha. ((:

ok done.
